Founded in 2024, the first batch of Master of Arts in Cultural Heritage (MACH) students have a mandatory field trip to visit either Kaiping, Guangzhou, Singapore or Malaysia to fully immerse in the livelihood there, which is a distinctive and valuable learning experience.
A 5-day field trip, led by Prof. Selia Jinhua Tan, Guangdong Qiaoxiang Cultural Research Center, Wuyi University and Dr. Nixon T.H. Leung, Assistant Professor of Department of Architecture, visited Cangdong Culture Heritage Conservation & Development Centre. The MACH students visited UNESCO heritage sites including Sanmenli Village, Zili Village, Majianlong Village and Jingjiangli Village. They also shared experiences with the conservation and management team of Lam Ancestral Hall of Jiangman City. Students also experienced the Kaiping folk songs, Cantonese music, Guqin of Lingnan style, Lingnan construction techniques and other forms of intangible cultural heritage. Studying different modes of conservation, students had a better understanding on the global conservation issues.
“Inheritors” , a programme by China Global Television Network (CGTN), recorded the MACH programme’s unique pedagogy and students’ fruitful learning experience. Teaching staff, and students were interviewed to express their view on cultural sustainability. Echoing with the Two Sessions, “Inheritors" showcases the latest achievements of the "14th Five-Year Plan" in poverty alleviation, comprehensively promotes the rural revitalization strategy, and agricultural and rural modernization, and presents China's cultural and natural heritage, intangible cultural heritage, tourism and other rich resources to the world.
