Intention of the field trip was to elevate students’ understanding on sustainability integration in landmark projects, community design, sustainable urban design and climate resilience by visiting case studies. Students had the privileged to receive design presentations and guided tours by senior members in renowned architectural practices such KPF, Foster & Partners, NUS Net Zero Energy project architect, and access to over twenty inspiring projects, i.e. Gardens by the Bay, Park Royal Pickering, Marina One, Capita Spring, Hive learning hub, the Jewel to name a few, that exemplify passive design principles and cutting-edge sustainable technologies. Students also had the opportunity to interflow with design students at National University of Technology School of Art, Media & Design. Visit to Urban Renewal Authority Gallery provided a comprehensive understanding of Singapore’s well accomplished ‘Garden City’ vision over the past decades and future vision to becoming a ‘City in a Garden’. 

Guided tour to South Beach by Foster & Partner. Passive design optimized large canopy creating a desirable microclimate. 

Presentation and guided tour to Robinson Tower and sky garden, by KPF. 

Hive Learning Hub – Heatherwick Studio. Internal spatial design optimizes students’ learning and interaction spaces that receive adequate daylight and ventilation providing a desirable study environment. 

Net zero energy NUS School of Design & Environment building. Presentation and guided tour by the project architect. 

Park Royal Pickering Hotel – WOHA Architects. High volume open lobby spaces and large green terraces creating a natural environment for guest floors and a soft response to urban fabric. 

Capita Spring by BIG – publicly accessible sky terraces in grade A office tower.
